Academy pupils visit the University of Birmingham to take part in the Big Biology Quiz

June 19, 2025

A group of year 10 pupils went to the Big Biology Quiz at the beginning of June at the University of Birmingham. The group competed against local schools, including many grammar schools. As we arrived and they saw the buses they were nervous but after little pep talk, they got into the day and started to work well in their respective teams. We did have a group that manged to secure a spot prize, well done girls! Unfortunately, we did not place in the top 3, however all the pupils were excellent participants and represented the Bluecoat values impeccably.  They enjoyed their experience, and conversations were overheard where they were discussing how much they would like to one day study at the university. An excellent day all round.

Thank you to Mr Virdee for giving the pupils an invaluable experience of university life.

As a Rights Respecting School we recognise that learning and teaching does not just happen in the classroom and it certainly does not stop for our pupils once they leave our corridors; making learning fun, accessible and rewarding happens every day.
