Apprenticeship Taster Day 2025, Year 10 visit In-Comm, Aldridge

June 3, 2025

On Monday 19th May 2025, pupils visited In-Comm, Aldridge to get an insight into a day in the life of an apprentice; what skills and qualities are needed when going through the application and interview process.

On arrival, pupils were greeted by STEM Engagement Lead, Leanne, who took the group for a tour of the site to see the different areas where the apprentices are trained, meeting some of the trainers and apprentices along the way. They were helpful in answering some of our students’ questions and giving them lots of information about the different roles and companies In-Comm work alongside.

Next the students were set a challenge- they had to design a mechanical system to transport a ball safely both vertically and horizontally for 200mm. They were able to use which ever mechanism they wanted to move the ball effectively along their design.

The teams had some time to plan, design, make and test their designs before being judged by some of the apprentices based at In-Comm. They were given feedback about their design before the winning team was announced. Well done to Elizabeth, Malaika and Keirah for being among the winning team!

A big thank you to Leanne from In-Comm and to Miss Addison and Mr Hendy in supporting our pupils on this day.

As a Rights Respecting School we wholly support Right 29 ‘Aims of Education’ that “children’s education should help them fully develop their personalities, talents and abilities” and showing our pupils the different pathways available to them is Right 28 ‘Access to Education’.
