July 10, 2025
Earlier today Thursday 10th July 2025), we welcomed the team from Black Country Support Schools to deliver a mock Assessment Centre experience for all Level 3 students in Year 12. Most higher level apprenticeships and a huge number of jobs now use assessment centres as part of the recruitment process. Gaining an insight into this selection method and the opportunity to learn from mistakes and be taught successful strategies for these tasks is a big advantage.
Students spent the first 30mins leaning about do’s and don’t in the job application process: presentation, body language, handshakes, mannerisms, how to present yourself in the best light etc They then broke into three groups of ten and took part in a series of group tasks where their own personal performances were scrutinised and assessed by one of the BCSS staff.
The students really embraced this opportunity and learned valuable strategies about how to make themselves stand out for the right reasons amongst other candidates in a competitive selection process.
We would like to thank Julie, Max and Jo from Black Country Support Schools for the fantastic morning and look forward to welcoming them back to Blue Coat next year when we will once again provide a mock Assessment Centre for Year 12 as part of Futures Week.
Right 29 sets out that the Aims of Education should help children develop fully including personalities, talents and abilities- opportunities such as this equip our pupils for their next steps.
Thank you to Mrs Napper for organising such a valuable experience for our sixth formers.
