Maths Big Quiz, Year 10

May 2, 2025

Twenty of our Year 10 students participated in the University of Birmingham Maths Big Quiz on April 29th 2025. Students worked in teams of four, competing against other schools from around the West Midlands. The day featured five quiz rounds delivered by academic staff:
• Round 1 – matchstick puzzles
• Round 2 – campus related maths
• Round 3 – a specialist round on Fractals which required students to do some preparation in advance
• Round 4 – a round in the style of TV show Countdown
• Round 5 – Geometry problems
Students also experienced a keynote lecture on ‘The Quest for the Formula of Youth’.
Whilst the students didn’t get one of the top three places, they had a great day taking part in the quiz, put all of their LORICK skills into action and were a credit to our school.

Thank you Miss Kumari for accompanying the students so they could participate.

As a Rights Respecting School we recognise that learning and teaching does not just happen in the classroom and it certainly does not stop for our pupils once they leave our corridors; making learning fun, accessible and rewarding happens every day.
