On Thursday 19th March, a group of our Year 8 and Year 9 pupils represented Blue Coat Academy at the annual Anne Frank Trust Youth Conference, in Manchester.
We were one of numerous schools from across the country to attend the conference.
The theme for the conference was ‘Bridging Generations’. Students joined groups working with students from other schools. Over the course of the day, they attended different workshops which would help them create a 2-minute creative piece on this year’s theme – relating to Anne Frank and challenging all forms of discrimination and prejudice.
Before the groups prepared their pieces, they all attended 2 workshops working with some amazing guest speakers. Looking at creativity and developing their knowledge around being a voice for equality and challenging prejudice and discrimination.
One of the workshops was with a Holocaust survivor, Anne Super. Students heard her first-hand account of her survival story and how she lives her live with the message of ‘Tell everyone so they don’t forget’. This was incredibly though provoking and humbling workshops for them to be part of.
The groups delivered some incredibly moving and hard-hitting pieces to the rest of the conference. To see our students from Blue Coat Academy showing just how passionate and committed they are to being a voice for equality and challenging discrimination was a very proud moment.
Being aware of and accepting people’s faith, culture & religion are direct values we embrace as a Rights Respecting School and promote the British Values we foster.
Thank you to Miss Addison and supporting staff for taking out pupil to such an important conference.
