World of Work Day from the Placement, Employment & Experience Team at Walsall Manor Hospital

On Tuesday 3rd June a group of Year 7 pupils were lucky enough to tour various departments at Walsall Manor Hospital.Split into three groups they visitedThe Image Department- where the pupils learned all about state-of-the-art CT scans. These are highly detailed computer images that can be taken of any part of the body, including bones, muscles, fat, organs, and blood vessels. The Faculty of Simulation where the pupils were introduced to a life-size mannequin which had a pulse, blinked, sighed and even screamed, finding out that it cost £95,000! The Infection Control where they were shown how ineffective everyday hand-washing can be. The pupils scrubbed their hands clean - or so they thought- but then looked at them under UV lighting and were surprised at the amount of germs that can still linger.After lunch, the group took part in three further workshops all about the value and availability of apprenticeships in the workplace.  Jacqui Watkeys, an ex Blue Coat Pupil herself,

Apprenticeship Taster Day 2025, Year 10 visit In-Comm, Aldridge

On Monday 19th May 2025, pupils visited In-Comm, Aldridge to get an insight into a day in the life of an apprentice; what skills and qualities are needed when going through the application and interview process.On arrival, pupils were greeted by STEM Engagement Lead, Leanne, who took the group for a tour of the site to see the different areas where the apprentices are trained, meeting some of the trainers and apprentices along the way. They were helpful in answering some of our students’ questions and giving them lots of information about the different roles and companies In-Comm work alongside.Next the students were set a challenge- they had to design a mechanical system to transport a ball safely both vertically and horizontally for 200mm. They were able to use which ever mechanism they wanted to move the ball effectively along their design.The teams had some time to plan, design, make and test their designs before being judged by some of

Pupils visit the National Police Dog Trials at Tally Ho!

13 year 8 students visited the National Police Dog Trials at Tally Ho! West Midlands. Pupils were able to take advantage of demonstrations from different departments within the Police, from the Firearms Unit to their Training Team to the Drone Unit. Students were able to talk to serving officers and police staff about their different roles within the force and get some careers advice.Pupils participated in a test which all serving Police Officers must complete to join the West Midlands force, The Bleep Test. One of our students achieved level 9.6 which is what all officers who wish to serve in the Firearms Unit must achieve. Well done, Harley!!!The pupils observed a serving Police Dog called Addison (great name) in action and training in the dog pool. On Tuesday 13th May, a group of year 10 students toured Oxford University where they were given the opportunity to visit 2 colleges: Oriel and St. Hilda's. They were given a unique insight into life as a university student by taking part in a question-and-answer session with current first years.Those involved were a credit to Blue Coat as they were extremely engaged and well-mannered throughout, gaining praise from the visit organiser.Our pupils commented on how the trip had really opened their eyes to the possibility of attending such esteemed universities that are held in high regard.Thank you Mr Hendy for accompanying the pupils on such an eye-opening and worthwhile trip.Trips like this are vital in raising the aspirations of our pupils by giving them access to more types of information and places that are an option for them (Right 17- Access to

Year 10s achieve joint 3rd place at the regional finals of The King’s Trust Enterprise Challenge, at Edgbaston Priory Club.

We were one of only 4 schools at the event from around the West Midlands region.Our team had to design and develop a business plan and pitch it to a prestigious judging panel including Claire Daniel the CEO Edgbaston Priory Club, Sarah Ann Moore Chair of Edgbaston Priory Club, Rufus Bowen Reginal Director The Watches of Switzerland Group, Maxine Laceby Co-Founder Absolut Collagen, Elizabeth Foster DL Deputy Lieutenant West Midlands and Kwame Boateng Founder of Ingrained Oil.The pupils had a tour of the clubs and grounds, then had some time to practice their pitch before lunch. Then on to the main event in the afternoon, Blue Coat presented first and set the bar high. After all, 4 schools had delivered their pitches, the judges went off to deliberate. 🏏 Champions Again! 🏆A huge congratulations to our Year 10 cricket team – with the fantastic support of three Year 9 players – who competed in the Y10 Walsall Dynamo Cricket Tournament on Wednesday 7th May.The boys put in an outstanding performance both with the bat and ball, showcasing skill, teamwork, and great sportsmanship. Monday 12th May 2025 we welcomed Lee Moore from the James Brindley Foundation. He worked with 25 students from years 7-10. They completed a workshop on knife crime. During this session students participated in practical activities exploring the impact of knife crime. They looked into the wide network of people affected by this on a daily basis; from the victim to family members and the wider community.Students were able to speak openly about how they felt about knife crime and the reasons people felt the need to carry a weapon.We had some great feedback from Lee about our student’s engagement and conduct during the sessions.‘I wanted to say how much of a pleasure it was to teach your students. They were engaged, respectful, and behaved exceptionally well throughout both sessions. Anne Frank Trust Ambassadors 2025

We are immensely proud of our 2025 ambassadors for the Anne Frank Trust. The pupils completed the voices of Equality programme earlier this year, then attended the annual conference in Manchester in March. They complied their applications, which included some incredible personal statements, and have achieved the honour of representing the Trust. They could now be taking part in regional and national meetings, speaking at official events and spend time with other ambassadors. What a fantastic opportunity and achievement; we could not be prouder. Well done girls!
