How does reading look at our Academy?
Accelerated Reading
Years 7 & 8 take part in AR during form time
Register, Read, Respond
KS4 groups will receive a ‘Register, Read, Respond’ booklet per student with various extracts and questions linking to the extract, this will help our students to explore new texts, genres and authors as well as develop a better level of comprehension.
Study skills
KS5 groups take part in study skills giving them a broader understanding of various aspects of revision, notetaking and other skills which will help them for higher education or the world of work.
Reading Rewards
We will be starting our reading rewards programme which is open to all year groups. Teachers will nominate students to receive a token that can be used in our new book vending machine, students can take a book home of their choice and winners will be announced every Friday. Students can be nominated if they:
• Read aloud in a class
• Improve their reading age significantly in Accelerated Reader
• Have appropriate book-related conversations
• Any engagement with reading or literacy overall
